How about this one, a Iisakki Järvenpää Aito with birch bark handles. I just received it as a birthday gift from Billswfl. :D The 3.25" blade is razor sharp and is full tang construction. This is a classic knife; compact, sturdy and feels great in the hand. The birch handles and classic sheath really set it off for me. Thank you for the beautiful knife Bill!

Ain't she sweet TJ? The pictures don't convey the nature of this knife. I saw pictures of it before I got it but it was better than I imagined. This knife just begs to be put to use. One of the nicest birthday presents I ever got. I just stepped into the Puukko Zone. 8)

Here's a piece from an older thread entitled "Scandinavian Fixed Blade Knives" from 2010 in this topic: I think that this is where I got the idea that "PUUKKO" was a Finnish term applied to a Nordic knife:

Hey guys, If you want some great info on making Puukkos and some tutorials and parts and supplies, google up Brisa Knife supplies. They are in Finland and have a great selection.

Here is a puukko I just finished...well it's 98% finished.... still need to peen the tang over. The first knife I've ever made.

Lauri puukko blade.

Guayacan & Ziricote handle with brass guard.

Sheath: Leather, wood, and deer antler.

No power tools other than a hand drill. Mostly used my Swiss Army Woodsman knife.

Thank you Bill. I'm finding a lot of good material on the Finnish sites, unfortunately most of them don't offer English translations. Suomi Puukkoseura publishes a magazine or journal twice a year which would be worth getting just for the pictures.

I have a feeling Joonas is going to be a very busy young man for quite some time.
