The Pine Knot brand was a house brand for Blue Grass tools in the early 30's. I believe Robeson made the majority of the Pine Knot knives for them. You may have heard of Blue Grass's other house brand - John Primble knives, much more common to find. However, your knife appears to be a Pine Knot that is a German re-make from the 90's (as you thought). I believe either Smokey Mt Knife Works or Taylor Cutlery currently own the rights to the Pine Knot brand. This is kinda like the Case Family Edition knives, when they produced knives with the C. Platt's stamp &other family connected brands in the early 2000's.
