New forum!!!!
Re: New forum!!!!
Here's a little Mdl. 445 I rescued from a tackle box over the weekend. The tang stamp is Western, over Boulder, over Colo.U.S.A..The knife cleaned up well considering how corroded it was. It is 1 of 4 which I dug out of tackle boxes at an estate sale. Dale H.

Here is a closeup of a sheath from late 1920s or early 1930s. The condition is remarkable.

I love Western knives, and I agree with phil, the quality is definitely there.

Re: New forum!!!!
Heres a Western that a very dear friend gifted me, it has a special place of honor among my collection.
Re: New forum!!!!
Great picture of a good looking knife, Johnny. Here's a Western 657. Behind it is a Camillus 165, their version of a medium stockman. The Camillus is a little huskier build than the Western, but they are very similar knives.
Re: New forum!!!!
Here are my few Western States knives. The first one is a gunstock whittler in a green swirl celluloid. The other one is a stockman with a faded candy cane stripe celluloid handle. The little miniature's are all Western States. They are shown is The Knifemakers that went west book.

Re: New forum!!!!
I have to agree about the quality of the steel in those old Western knives...been cleaning squirrels, rabbits, quail, etc, etc since my grandad first put a gun in my hands back when I was 5 years old back in 1956 and if i could shoot supper I also had to clean supper . The only knife blade that I think holds and edge as long as the old Westerns is the old Bucks. dont know much about the modern Bucks. Thanks for showin, guys!

Used this one yesterday to skin a whitetail, Western F66, mfg mid 1960's.

Great knives, all! Here are a couple more. Deer headbone handles. Boulder. The bottom is a contract for Ward Master Quality. Notice the bakelite pommel. The blades are mirror bright. This is how my scanner renders that situation.

Re: New forum!!!!
Have a great day hunting. Just got in myself from another day of deer hunting - real foggy this morning, five hours on stand - nothing. Front coming in now, sat on stand two and a half hours this evening, saw two spike bucks (already got one of those so these got to walk) and one doe - too late to shoot with precision. My buddy, an active duty Marine down from Quantico for todays hunt, saw one shooter, but it wouldn't get close enough for him to shoot. Maybe tomorrow!!garddogg56 wrote:Going hunting with this W39 on VETERANS DAY my small knife will be a Kutco stockman.
