Oyster shucking knives

Post by knives-are-quiet »

Wasn't too sure where to post about these knives.

Anyone collect any clam or oyster shucking knives?

Here is one I pick up down the Jersey shore at a flea market.
Made in France. also has "ROWOCO" marked on it.
Not a bad little knife.

Interesting blade shape. That one isn't for oysters is it ?

I'd be in fear of that point if I was doing the shucking. ::suspense::

Yes it is an oyster knife.
I have the research stored on my comuter somewhere but can't seem to find where I stored it at the moment.
There are pictures of this knife with different handle materials, this one being rose wood.
If I can locate the info on this computer or search on the web for it again I'll post it.
These knives are not supposed to be very sharp. Also when shucking you wear a heavy leather glove in the hand holding the oyster so not to stab yourself.
I'm not a big fan of oysters, clams so I put a very sharp edge on all the edges of this oyster knife top and bottom and am presently using it as a utility knife. Not a bad little knife for that purpose. The little knick on the blade is for getting started on the oyster or clam shell. It helps chip the edge of the shell and creates a starting point to crack open and get to the meat.
The blade is made of stainless and if I remember the info right, the knife was made in the 50's in France.
