Is this knife military

Post by Rifleman »

This knife is marked NEEDAM HILL STREET SHEFFIELD on both blades. It looks like British military in style and design. This is the first one I've seen like it.There is no Broad Arrow mark.Any ideas?

I'd post that in the European Knife forum. It has a military look to it. Not all knives were marked with the broad arrow. I think the British Navy did not use that marking as an acceptance mark as did the army.

I have several of these, many different tang stamps. If they do not have the broad arrow it is most likely non military and these were probably sold after WWII, most of mine look to be made in the 1950-60`s.

S-K would probably know the answer, maybe he will see this thread ::nod::

I can tell you one thing, all the ones I have are nail breakers

Definetly looks circa WWII. Probably made after 1941 when the copper shackels were replaced by steel. Not all knives made it into military service....maybe Army Surplus. Will try to find more. :) s-k

Isn't it "NEEDHAM" and not Needam?
Related to eye witness brand Sheffield???

WATTS - related to Manhattan Cutlery Co.???

These relationships between the names and companies were before 1941.
Not too sure if this is correct info associated with your knives,
The names where familiar to me but the WW 2 era isn't in relationship with these names.

Worth a try though~
