Pinch Lock Backs

Former Schrade President Walley Gardner and principal Joe Hufnagel joined with nine master cutlers to form a group of US craftsmen with over 300 years of combined knife making experience to create Canal Street Cutlery. It was first located in upstate New York where a long and rich tradition of quality knife making dates back to the 19th century. Unfortunately, the company closed its doors in 2015, but not before making some great knives. The brand was resurrected in 2018 as Canal Street Cutlery Co-Op & focused on making very small batches of high quality traditional knives. As a Co-Op, it was owned by the knife makers who worked there. Unfortunately, the business model couldn't hold up & the entity again ceased production.

Pinch Lock Backs

Post by Chase »

Introduced in 2010 by Canal Street Cutlery! These little beauties have grabbed my attention and I currently have a sample of all that have been manufactured to date (That I know of!); Here are some single pictures and then a display that I put them in! Enjoy.

Great looking display but I got to warn you........those rascals at Canal Street will keep making more variations till you have to buy a bigger display. It's already happened to me on the swell centered jacks.

I have a small question. I can see the lock back release lever on all of the knives Chase posted except for the White Tail Antler handled proto knife. Also, all of the other knives have 5 pins but the White Tail Antler handled proto knife seems to only have 3. Have my eyes gotten so bad that I missed them on the one knife? Is the White Tail Antler handled proto knife a pinch lock back knife like the others? Please excuse my Canal Street knife ignorance but I'm not familiar with most of their patterns. All very nice looking knives by the way. ::tu::

Aimus good call

Chase,

The White Tailed Deer Knife you have displayed has an end cap on it ~ I think that must be a Half Moon Trapper ~ yep and Phil is right ~ there are two new Pinches out ~ Pink Lemonade and Lemonade. We are tricksy little devils.

That's a great collection you have Chase and the Pinch is a great little knife!

Mike...

I guess I missed that little detail about the end cap...I was just so excited to get the PROTOTYPES that I must have misunderstood what you and Wally were saying!

I was sure that you guys said it was a one of a kind...however, it is not a Pinch Lock Back! ::shrug:: ::mdm::

What is it!

Guess I'll need to find a home for it since it does not fit my gathering.....Disappointed in Maryland ::dang::

Nice collection Tom! (And great pics too!). That whitetail stag's a single blade trapper, definitely one of a kind. As I mentioned all the whitetail's been going to the Mooremaker pinches (another one to add to your collection ::uc:: :D ). A few more that I know of are the red abalone at A.G. Russell and a ram's horn under the Kabar stamp. I could swear that I made a dozen or so smooth sunset bones a couple of weeks ago, but honestly I can't be sure, they're all just a blur at this point ::cb:: ::tired:: :-D Can't get 'em made fast enough!

Chase,

That White Tailed Deer knife is a half moon trapper ~ and I think we were kidding with you when you brought it that there was going to be a fellow collector who was going to be upset with us for not selling it to him. If you want me to help you out there ~ I know someone who will give it a good home.

Give me a buzz about it : )

Oh..it's not that I am dissatisfied with the knife...on the contrary, It's a gorgeous speciman! I guess I was so wrapped up in the Pinch Lock Backs, and excited about getting a one of a kind, that I didn't realize that it was a half moon trapper and not a Pinch Lock Back! LOL

In any case, I want the next two Pinch Lock Backs...when are they available?

Come on Mike...don't drag your feet, where are they? LOL

I just paid for three new Pinch Lock Backs from Canal Street!

Pink Lemonade Awabi Abalone
Lemonade Abalone
Wildabeest

I captured them using Droppointhunters sight at a 10% Fourth of July Sale Event! Thanks Mike!

Now I can't wait to get them in so I can add them to my gathering of Pinch Lock Backs and post pictures!

The Wildabeest is still in production by my Uncle, Harold Buley, one of the
Master Cutlers there at Canal Street Cutlery!
Here is the web address to the site....this is not advertisement, it's only to show you the pictures!

Thanks Canal Street.
