WWII German Army Pocket knife

Post by Iron Hoarder »

I found this not long ago. It is near mint. I just had to rub off the dried on storage grease. There is a little bit of rust on the pins and the rest of the knife just a dull gray patina. No tang stamp on it but both side of the wooden scales have SS inside a double circle followed by 38/39 and the German quarter master stamp. There is then a large gap and SS inside a diamond. I managed to find out a little bit about the stamp but couldn't decode it without paying up for site access. Any help and a value would be appreciated.

I found that one too but it doesn't cover plain old pocket knives.

oops) http://irwan.net/german-dagger-markings-2/

40 M7/38 Paul Seilheimer Solingen
41 M7/39 Franz Steinhoff Solingen-Wald

ok..IF, the 38/39 is the makers mark..it is on the site above..an on the site murphy posted.

germans were rather anal about marking everything...there should be unit id's on that knife somewhere...

it could be an issue from the SS school...i'll keep looking.

nice looking knife...

can you get a better photo of the numbers towards the hilt end of that knife...it looks like the rzm acceptance stamp then the 39/40?

The stamp isn't very good on either side, I can see it with the naked eye but can't get it to photograph with what I've got. It is SS in a diamond then a big gap with SS in a double circle then 38/39 and then the RZM mark. There is no M mark or unit marks. It appears unissued. I had to clean off the remains of the storage grease. Sorry my pictures are upside down in regards to the orientation of the stamp.

fantastic tang stamp collection...great reference.

the diamond was used exclusively by the hitler youth...the circle is the big boys...

nice find...
