Cutco #1846 copperhead Any Good???

Post by Bert »

Hi All,
New find, an older Cutco #1846 copperhead folder. It's blade is 3 1/2" long, has jigged wood scales, a nice copperhead snake head sheild and copperhead blade etch. Has copper bolsters. Tang Stamp: Cutco copperhead (other side tang), 1846 USA.The knife is strong and light, question is.. is it worth the $20.00 I paid?

I'd say it's quite easily worth $20. U.S.A. made. It locks. Even the blade spine is jimped. Jigged wood with unique bolster.
How is the action? No wobble?

I think it's a great packer.

FRJ,
Thanks I may just pack it around, the action is good, absolutely no wobble, seems strong. I think is was made in the 70's.

Yes sir I Feel it was worth it. I did not know the brand very well, Cutco doesnt ring any bells here. Now I know more of the history of Alcas, and the etching company.
I was hoping to find out whether or I not I had something I could use, or Not. It's looking like a collector item, that should be kept real nice.Shame it fits my hand very well.

watch for what they sell for on ebay, the older ones bring in some
decent dough. I bought one with aluminum handles because my
parents had bought some of their kitchen knives from my cuz,
and i was teasing my mom about it and told her i had seen this knife for
sale. She exclaimed that I should buy it, they are so sharp!!!!!!!
when I saw it again, i looked closer at it and the main blade has
only been ground, never factory sharpened!!!!!!!

Hey all,
I stumbled across this site by accident, or maybe not...

I see that earlier this year you guys were commenting on the Cutco Copperhead #1846 Lockback Knife. I'm wondering if any of you have come across another and would be interested in talking about a sale?? My dad lost his within the last 6 months and he originally purchased it when they first came out. My parents got married in 1970 and when they purchased their cutco knife set, dad got this one for himself. It was so used, the copperhead snake engraving had been worn off the blade from years of use. It was still in great shape and had lots more life in it.

His birthday is coming up in April and I would love nothing more than to be able to find a replacement for him. He would never suspect it, but I'm finding that I'm always a month or two too late on ebay. I understand they're becoming a collectors item, so I'm not looking one for $25, nor do I mind if it's been 'gently' used.

Please help!! Any advice or offers would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Jenifer :)

Tony,
You have a really nice knife there. ::tu:: It is valuable, I have not seen a stag version of this Cutco. Have you tried finding one like it on Ebay in completed listings? I kind of wish I hadn't sold mine, might want to hang onto that one!

this post is terribly old so you're probably not worried about it anymore. However my dad was vice president of Vector Marketing who handles the sales of Cutco Cutlery. The copper red pocket knife was originally sold for probably around 250 to 300 in the late 80's early 90's. Any cut co knife is insured for life in any condition if you snap the blade off of it and still have the hilt and mail it back to him I believe now they charge $5 that used to be free they will repair sharpen replace the knife and mail it back to you for the life of the product. That is why Cutco is so great is the warranty is guaranteed for ever

I just found the one I've had for close to 30 years. Still in the box and never been used. Anyone interested?
