New USA Made Official Boy Scout Knives by Bear & Remington

Post by philco »

It's been a long, long time since you could buy a brand new Remington Official Boy Scout knife, but once again that is now possible. Remington has announced they are in the process of releasing a new remake of the vinerable RS3333 from days gone by.
These new Remingtons will be made under contract by Bear & Sons.
Fellow AAPK member AllenMcB has done some pretty interesting research on the topic and has posted articles on this new knife as well as the stainless steel version which will be offered with the Bear MGC branding.
If you are interested in learning more, you can read Allen's articles by clicking onto the link below which will take you to ScoutKnives.net , a website dedicated to official Boy Scout knives and axes.

Nice looking knife.

But why can't Bear use more than one rivet on the scales?

Bear's production for Remington is made exactly the same as the 1924 Remington RS3333, using most of the same toolings used way back when. If Remington had used more rivets then, so would Bear today.

The photos I saw showed only one center rivet, the one through the scales and backsprings. The original Remington Scout knives used three scale rivets.

Bear seems to never use more than one scale rivet on their traditional pocketknives.

Karl has a keen eye and is right about the lack of pins in the new Remington scout. Sadly, I do not own one of the old originals yet, so here's a link to a one selling now on ebay.

The original certainly had more pins than the reproduction knife.

Just heard from Remington that the new RS3333 knives started shipping last week.

Brief article on www.ScoutKnives.Net says the five dealers getting the first of the batch are Smoky Mountain Knife Works
Jerry's Sporting Goods
Acusport
Sports South
Zanders

Hope this helps.
