Navagating The "New" Forum

Post by jerryd6818 »

As we all get accustomed to the "new" forum, I'm sure you, like I, have had to go on the hunt for some of the old familiar features. I was sorely missing the "jump to the top of the page" link and couldn't figure out what to do until Bryan pointed out that it's still there, just in a different position and format.

So for the old hands who may not know where their favorite navigational short cut ended up or the new member who is having problems getting around, here are some of the new ways of to accomplish old tasks. (I hope I'm not jumping the gun here as the upgrade is still in transition.)

IF YOU DISCOVER SOME NEW WAY TO ACCOMPLISH AN OLD TASK OR A NEW FEATURE ON THE FORUM, PLEASE SHARE IT BY POSTING IT HERE.

Jerry, users should note that the interface is a bit different on the mobile site than on the desktop view and all of these features are not available at this time on the mobile site. I am sure Byan is not done though so we'll give that some time.

Bob, more than 40 years in the industry (data processing as they used to call it or Information Technology as they call it now) and an interest in technology has worked well for me. Since I retired and my memory started to fail, the industry has passed me by and I'm not as well grounded as I used to be but I can still bumble and fumble my way around a little.

I am using an Android phone and the "quick links" tab will not sit there long enough for me to click on it before it jumps back to the home page.

Also, how do it find the stores? Thanks, Mike

I really like the new format. One thing. When I read a thread in the old format, the color (or shade) of the title used to change to remind me that I've read it. Now it doesn't change. Is it just me or is this new?

I haven't found a way to get to the stores from my phone. Don't think it's available yet.

Bruno, the read/unread thread indicators are the same as the old version of the forum. The dot on the edge of the circle indicates you've posted in that thread and the little "page" in the middle of the circle is gold for an unread thread or white for a read thread. (you need to go to the last page in the thread for it to be marked as read)

Greg -- I tried that on my Android last night after I read your issue and did some exploring. I couldn't find a link to the stores either so I just asked my phone, "AAPK Stores" and it popped right up. (I have the Google voice prompt app)

There is something weird going on with the way the forum is working for me. It won't seem to let me log out. Everytime I navigate to the forum, I am already logged in, even if I was very sure to log out when I left the last time. Also, in Board Index, the Last Post category at the far right, is stuck in the past by a couple of days?
Dan
edit: also, just looked and the time and date is way off. I am logged in now and the date is saying May 04. Also says my last visit was May 02, however, it is saying I have the last post in knife lore on May 04? Very confusing.

Not exactly sure where to make this request but it sure would be helpful if the email notification of a new PM received could be restored. I just found 2 new PMs in my in box and they had been there for a while.

Ray, do you have this setting checked in the "Control Panel" on the "Board Preferences" tab?? If you do, then this is a Bryan issue. As you can see, I have it checked and I'm not getting email notifications of PMs either but then I never have.

Jerry,
For years I had the email notification and then all of a sudden I didn't. I haven't made any changes but truth is, I can't figure how to get there to check it out.

Ray

Found the way to the control panel and verified that my preferences still show that I should get an email notification when a PM is posted.

Now that I've had time to think about it, I kind of vaguely remember getting emails for a while when I received a PM but I haven't been getting them for a long time. Since your settings are all correct, it sounds like a Bryan issue to me.

MikeThe link thing works fine on my Android. Don't know what to tell ya. As for the stores, you may have to do what Greg did until Bryan has a chance to take a look at that issue.

Dan, you definitely have a Bryan issue there. I was able to sign off and sign back on with no problems. Weird glitch.

It will let me log out now. My name comes up when I navigate to the board index page, but I am actually not logged in. However, my board index page is still stuck om May 4 at 9:03 AM. However, when I click into a forum? (ie Knife Lore etc.) everything is good.

As per recommendation I can now access the store's with Google search.
As it turns out the my issue with "quick links" is not an issue at all. I do lose the word "quick links" after I click on "board index" but the index bars remain. Thanks for the help guys. Mike

Same here Ray.
I checked the settings & I was supposed to be receiving emails, so I turned them off and then turned them back on.
I still am not getting emails when I get a new PM. ::shrug::
