Spyderco Dog Tag

Post by jerryd6818 »

I saw this Spyderco Dog Tag and thought, "What a cute little feller. I wouldn't mind having one of those."

And then I looked it up on Amazon and saw what they're asking for them. Have they lost their friggen' minds?

8) Expensive but super cool! The frame is Titanium and the blade is a very good steel, S30V. That's what probably jack's up the price!

Looks to me like it should be a $25 dollar knife tops! ::shrug::

Yeah Jerry, I really like Spyderco for their "form follows function" philosophy, and their continuous improvement and use of modern steels - and their quality control is generally very good ... BUT they do get a little crazy with the prices of some of their stuff, especially new releases ...

In those cases, I generally just wait for some poor soul to decide they aren't getting enough carry time with a particular knife, then scoop 'em off the secondary market ... unless it's something I just gotta have ...

That little 'dog tag'? ... I'm thinkin' I don't gotta have that ... 8)

Paul, I've developed the theory that if you keep your prices high, the perceived quality of your product will also be high and thus your product will be more desirable. (or maybe I read that someplace)

At that price, just wait about a year and you can probably buy it here in close out for $19.95 :D

Mitch, that all depends on the collector appeal - if the die hards jump on 'em, they'll stay up there ...

Jerry, the truth is, their stuff is pretty nicely built and the company is very responsive and supportive of their customers ... those things are worth a higher price tag to me. Just sometimes I don't have the cheddar to be able to pay it ... or want to ... depends on the offering, and my current state of 'affliction' ...

Back piece (green) is Titanium. Blade is CPM S30V. Blue part is Aluminum.

If it were $20, I would grab one just for the novelty of it.

I love my Endura4, and my wife totes a purple Delica I was gifted with from a member here. They are fine , fine knives. But that's way over the top for that little feller IMO. But I do like it!

Another plus to watchin the secondary market is being able to pick up discontinued models that you may fancy ...

Case in point: I just snagged one of the original Kiwi's (a favorite of mine) ... a completely different "animal" than the second and third generation versions - not even close ... I am happy!
