This Robeson 622409 two backspring bone handled toenail sold on Ebay a week or so ago.

I discussed the auction with another AAPK member and predicted the knife would bring about $1000.00.

He agreed.

It sold for $1285.00!!

I think the knife has salesman sample numbers on the back of the master blade.

It has very pretty handles.

A classic Robeson. ::tu::

Somebody bought a very nice old knife.

I'd love to see it after a gentle cleaning.

I find it difficult to understand that only Dimitri would opine on this knife. ::shrug::

So, I'm going to kick it back up to the top of the page and give you vintage knife guys one more opportunity.

At least the pics are still there.

I was bidding on a busted up one of those (at least a similar one) in a lot . It went for $20.50. I forgot to go back and bid. ::facepalm:: That is a beautiful knife.

Sometimes the forum archives so much during the day you miss things unless you search each sub forum.

A very special knife, Charlie.
I just like looking at the tangs in the 3rd picture down. they're so nicely cut.
But, of course all of the knife is nice to look at.
I just hate to see the blades open like that. ...... OH, that poor spine.

It looks tight and solid but with enough wear to have a personality. It's not so exagerrated as to look like a freak knife, which some of the toenails are, but still it's clear what the pattern is. I know very little about these things but it strikes me that this knife would be the high point of almost any collection.

IH, I saw that lot too. That was a chance to get a rare pattern, a swell center, two backspring toenail for not a lot of money.

It was kind of used up, wasn't it?

I think this Robeson 407 is an unused old salesman's sample. It's got inked #'s on the back of the master. There is still a lot of glaze finish left on it. The area of the blades that sat above the frame are greyed a bit and there's a few rust spots.

If one were inclined, that knife would clean up to be a stunner.

Lots of color in that bone.

Somebody got a great knife, but they certainly paid for it.
