Kershaw chive

Kershaw began its foray into the knife business sometime during 1974. The company was originally based in Portland Oregon, but most early knives were manufactured in Japan. The first US manufacturing plant was opened in 1997 & the company currently offers knives made in the U.S., Japan, & China. Pete Kershaw (an ex Gerber salesman) started the business.

No, not quite as "thin". Smoky the Chive is a very small knife. If that's what you're looking for I think you'll be satisfied. If not, you may not be satisfied.

Below are comparisons between a Leek and a Scallion (in the middle size wise between a Leek and a Chive). The photography is faaar from professional but it will give you some idea as to the blade because the Chive blade has the same profile as the Scallion, it's just shorter.
The Leek blade is about 2cm at the pivot and the Scallion is close to 3cm at the pivot.
I bought a Chive several years ago and sent it back because it was too small for my meat hooks. Now I wish I'd kept it just so I could have one and the prices have gone up significantly since then.

Hey thanks Jerryd6818 for the info. I do like the scallion . One more thing , this sounds stupid but when I am not carrying the knife ,should I leave it open ? Will the spring wear out faster if its closed all the time ?
Thanks very much .

No special handleing required. IF a spring should ever fail (unlikely but it does happen) contact Kershaw and they will send a FREE replacement. Your other choice is to send it back to the factory for FREE repair. They also offer FREE sharpening for life. Kershaw's customer service is second to none.

Of course their warranty doesn't cover abuse, it shouldn't and I don't know of any warranty that does.

I have a Scallion that I got third hand and maybe even fourth hand. It had some issues and was probably a good 10 - 12 years old when I got it. The blade lock was broken. It was dull. The blade tip was bent. The blade had late lockup and blade rock. I straightened the blade and sent it to Kershaw with everything except the bent blade (which was now straight) listed on the repair form. Got it back and they had fixed everything, plus they had replaced the blade (probably because of the late lockup). You can't ask for more than that.
