Press button double switch
Press button double switch
I have Press Button Knife Co. double switchblade pen. I found it in a group of "junk knives" and the owner did not know anything about it. After lubrication, the small blade springs opened fine and locked in place.
The large blade springs open too fast and doesn't catch. It bounces off the back spring. If I open the blade manually, the button locks the blade open. Any ideas? Any way to slow the blade without taking the knife apart? I'm reluctant to take it apart since it is so old with the original tortoise shell handles. It is nice in my collection the way it is, with complete blades and scales. It just bugs me that it won't lock open.
Thanks.

Re: Press button double switch
I have a few that do the same thing, interested in what people have to say.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Yes, you can carefully upset the liners on the end of the knife to provide friction just at the point where the blade is fully open.

Does it look like these?
Mine do the same thing. I'm told it's the nature of the beast.
I would never attempt to take mine apart.

Thank you Millern. Glade to help. I read, some whear, that seamstresses liked using these knives in their craft.
Mr. DeShives, how does one "upset the liners on the end of the knife"?
Could you please define "upset". I would love to tweak these nice knives so they would fire properly.
Thank you, sir.

You don't have to take them apart.
I use a very small ball peen hammer and tap the end of the knife-just on the liners.

You have the right idea, but the hammer is too large.
It might work. I use hammer velocity over weight.
You just want to slightly peen the liners.

Re: Press button double switch
I did it.
I went with a much smaller flatfaced hammer and gave it a few wollaps and it worked. It's not perfect but it locks most of the time and it doesn't flip back. Not pretty but effective.

A little lighter touch might be better, but it's pretty good for a first try!

Re: Press button double switch
I appreciate the info, as well, Bill!
Re: Press button double switch
I don't own one of these, but it was an education. Thanks Bill. It might come in handy later.
