New Hammer Brand

Post by kootenay joe »

I recently saw a Jumbo Sleeveboard Whittler, Hammer Brand with 'the Arm' logo & HB10 pattern #, made in China for $25 so i bought it.
It is a well made knife, no issues & no blade rub. At 4 1/2" it is a big knife.
Now, here is the surprise: it is an exact copy of my 2007 Schatt & Morgan, File & Wire, "Wildcat Driller", right down to the pinched bolsters & caps. It was $137 IIRC. Steel is ATS-34.
Here are some pictures: note: very plain box.

No it's a 2007 Queen made knife, their File & Wire line, most expensive of all Schatt & Morgans. AS far as i know this Hammer Brand one has only been out about 1 year
Queen could have had them made 'offshore' and not disclosed it. You can see from the workmanship that both knives are quite comparable, so the possibility is there but i doubt the S&M was made anywhere other than in Titusville PA.

This should serve as a reminder of just how close the Chinese made cutlery is to our best American made cutlery.

Whomever owns the H.B. branding now (Stewart Taylor ?) had to request the Chinese manufacturer to make a "Jumbo Sleeveboard Whittler". Perhaps he sent them a 2007 Schatt & Morgan to show what he was asking them to make and they measured & copied exactly ?
