Can anyone tell me about this Kabar?

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

Can anyone tell me about this Kabar?

Post by morglan »

I just picked this one up. It's 4" closed, with main spear and small (but wide) pen blade, no half stops, stag scales, and pointed rear bolster. I've never seen anoth3r one like it.

Can anyone tell me when it was made, value, rarity, etc.?

I believe its called a Kabar bomb jack, issued in 1987. They come in a wooden box and are on Ebay once in a while.
The last two on Ebay sold as a pair for $145 if memory serves me correctly.

Tim,

I've seen the two knife bomb jack set before (I think there was one for sale on here recently), but I'm pretty sure those knives had bomb shaped shields, which this one does not. Not sure, but I don't think the ones in the set had stag scales either.

Morglan, Sorry that i lost my manners this morning....First of all...Welcome to AAPK !

The pair that sold on Ebay were purchased by a member here and then put in his store. Neither had shields. One was stag , one was scrimshaw. Here's an old link to them. Hope this helps.

Thanks Tim,

And I stand corrected. I think I found one of the scrimshaw versions for sale online within the past day or two while looking for info on mine. I guess then, that I paid a fair price for mine as well. Now I just can't decide whether to carry and use it, or put it away (I don't really own any safe queens!)

Thanks for the info.

This is what I had in my Dandy Knife Store. They did not last long. About 2 weeks and Poof they were gone.
