Canal Street at Shot Show 2015

Former Schrade President Walley Gardner and principal Joe Hufnagel joined with nine master cutlers to form a group of US craftsmen with over 300 years of combined knife making experience to create Canal Street Cutlery. It was first located in upstate New York where a long and rich tradition of quality knife making dates back to the 19th century. Unfortunately, the company closed its doors in 2015, but not before making some great knives. The brand was resurrected in 2018 as Canal Street Cutlery Co-Op & focused on making very small batches of high quality traditional knives. As a Co-Op, it was owned by the knife makers who worked there. Unfortunately, the business model couldn't hold up & the entity again ceased production.

Canal Street at Shot Show 2015

Post by Chase »

I was very fortunate to meet up with Wally and some of the folks from Dexter out at Shot Show this past week.

My main interest in meeting up with them was to see the new Tactical Survival Knife they have designed and are working on. I am very impressed with what I have seen so far.

I will try to describe them and show you a photo. I will also include the link to a website for you to get a better photo!

GREEN RIVER CS TACTICAL

Phil,

That is the Canal Street Squeeze, big brother to the Pinch Lockback. What is unique about this particular one are the scales/handles. It is hand tooled material to resemble the skin of a python. Wally tells me that they have more than 100 hours in this knife and that is why it is a one of one knife...lol

He says they just can't get the money out of them that they have invested...I thought it would be a nice addition to my CS gatherings, even though it isn't one of my favorite patterns. Not often you can grab up a one of one knife.

Blue

That first knife pictured, tan with the black end is a new Pinch Version. This particular one is called a Pinch Air

It doesn't have the nickel bolster and is assembled with a rosette rivet. The reason it is called a Pinch Air is because it is so much lighter than a standard Pinch Lockback

Thanks Tom. That explains why I've never seen that one before. It caught my eye because of just that. Don't part with that one without consulting with your ole Ky. buddy. :)

Thanks Tom. It sure looks like it would be complicated to achieve that "look". Kinda funky but I like it. :)
