Going to be in Ellenville
Are the Canal Street knives carry knives or collectables?I'm going to be in Ellenville on the 8th of October and have talked to Michael about veiwing his wares.
Don't know what I'll buy but I like the pinch lock back models.

They're carry or collectable, however you like 'em
If you're able to get there on Friday, you can take a tour of the factory, it's closed on Sat and Sun.
Mike's got a large stock though, you won't be disappointed!

They are certainly collectable but they are also superb users.
In my opinion Canal Street makes a better knife in general than Great Eastern.
I just like GECs use of 1095 steel better in general than the stainless Canal Street uses in many patterns.
My Canal Street Canittler is one of the finest knives I own and the D-2 steel holds an edge better than my GECs. I just wish they made more patterns in D-2.
I think the styling of the Canal Street knives in general is more refined than GEC.
Both companies produce great knives, but I like Canal Street a little better.

rmeron,
The CS Pinch Lock Back is a great knife! I have most of the ones CS made except a Redhill and 1 other I believe. I just love those clean looking sleek models. I personally do not carry them, I just look at them and hold them whenever I get the time. Michael is a great guy, I buy all my CS through him and I have not been disappointed with His service. Be sure to take a look at the custom knives CS is doing as well...very unique scales on them, I have several of them.
Good luck, oh, and bring money....once you see what Michael has to offer you will not be able to resist! Go to the Pinch Lock Back Thread to see some of my Pinches. I still need to post pictures of the customs.

Hello Rmeron,
"Try it you'll like it".
I have several of the Moon Pie Trappers and to me they are the epitome of form & function They are elegant to look at and will cut with the best of them.

Re: Going to be in Ellenville
I've been carrying a Canal Street congress since late last year and I love it. It's really well crafted and the steel (D2) is some of the best for edge retention I've encountered.

You can't go wrong with a Canal Street, in my opinion, for everyday use or as a collectable.

Michael is a real stand up guy We didn't connect on that Saturday so he sent me 5 Pinch Lockback knives to look at so I could choose.I only could afford one at this time so I went with the Lemonade Abalone. All the shipping was on his nickle all I had to do was pay for the knife.
I'm definately buying more down the road.
