New Canal Street Knife is Released ~ CARRY THE FOOTBALL™

Former Schrade President Walley Gardner and principal Joe Hufnagel joined with nine master cutlers to form a group of US craftsmen with over 300 years of combined knife making experience to create Canal Street Cutlery. It was first located in upstate New York where a long and rich tradition of quality knife making dates back to the 19th century. Unfortunately, the company closed its doors in 2015, but not before making some great knives. The brand was resurrected in 2018 as Canal Street Cutlery Co-Op & focused on making very small batches of high quality traditional knives. As a Co-Op, it was owned by the knife makers who worked there. Unfortunately, the business model couldn't hold up & the entity again ceased production.

It's the most exciting new knife to be designed in some time! Total length is 6 1/4" - mirror polished and beveled 3 1/4 " 420C Steel Single-Edged Blade, Genuine Real-Seam, Real-Feel Football Handle, and football leather sheath.

Being it's such an unusual (corny) knife for CS, it may be that it will become a real collectable in the coming years??

Well, to a knife collector or knife collector/football fan it may be a bit over the top, but to a regular football fan, I can see where it would have some attraction (read rabid NASCAR fans). It's a higher end novelty knife, and it's pigskin, and it doesn't look like a weapon if you carry it. If they can be customized with team logos, you might be surprised at the sales. It's not a bad looking knife in person, if I can wrangle a few pics of it, I'll post 'em up.
Myself, I lean more towards their traditional fair, which is why I've remained broke since the swell center jack came out  :D :D

If they can be customized with team logos, you might be surprised at the sales. I have to agree.

How about team logo etched on the blade with 1 of 100?

Sell them in ever stadium, for first 6 mo. then in AAPK Store.. ::tu::

Carry the Football

I will grant you that it is a very different knife than the traditional Canal Street heirloom knife style that we fans have all become so passionate about.

The really interesting thing about Carry the Football is it's totally different look/style and projected audience. This is a very fine knife ~ and comparable to any knife Canal Street is making. Canal Street hopes that it will attract a whole new audience to high quality knives. The handle is very different to what any traditional knife handle is - and there an authenticity to it that is quite remarkable. Frankly - it took me a while to accept it while it was in design - but it has really grown on me and I am excited about what it could mean for the industry at large.

The Knife industry really needs a break through knife like this to shake up the norm. It is a copy-cat industry - and if this knife is successful - other knife company's may be drawn into making a higher quality knife as opposed to cutting corners to bring the price down - which is the constant demand of big knife houses.

This is not a new material on a basic tactical that the industry has been regurgitating over and over again - it is a very well made knife; it has a new blade we haven't seen before; it has a wonderful feel to it; and it relates to more of a mass market. The hope is that it will attract more young folks to the idea that they would like to own and hold a quality knife.

So far the field reaction and ad reactions are showing that youths (25 yrs and below) really like this knife and think it's pretty cool.

Despite your best sales effort and desire to convince all that this is a great looking, inovative knife the bottom line is ITS VERY UGLY and very impractical. Canal dropped the ball on this one! No pun intended. I showed this knife to my son and a few of his buddies from college this morning, they laughed and thought it was hilarious looking. They are all between the age of 21 and 24.

When you call the knife industry a "copy cat industry" that is the most absurd thing I have heard in some time! That is like saying "yeah that whole shoe industry is a copy cat industry".
Thats hilarious!

Several times in your sales pitch you mention designing this knife was made to appeal to a "younger" collector group. Well this thing starts at 100.00 and I doubt very much that many young knife collectors will be able to fork over that much cash for a knife.

I have a "different idea how about a fruit handle or a vegetable handle? Thats different! Thats not copy cat like the rest of the entire knife industry as you earlier stated. Here are some great examples. These might apeal to the whole vegetarian crowd.

Sorry dude but you asked for it with your pushing of this idiotic looking knife after everyone gave an opinion of how foolish looking it is.

Gino,

I have been involved with the field testing and have personally seen the multitude of favorable reactions to this knife ~ even so I will grant you that it is not for everybody ~ and also that it is not inexpensive. The price of the knife reflects the cost of materials and labor. Like all Canal Street knives it is a custom hand-made production knife, it is made to last, and it is made in America.
