New Canal Street Knife is Released ~ CARRY THE FOOTBALL™

Former Schrade President Walley Gardner and principal Joe Hufnagel joined with nine master cutlers to form a group of US craftsmen with over 300 years of combined knife making experience to create Canal Street Cutlery. It was first located in upstate New York where a long and rich tradition of quality knife making dates back to the 19th century. Unfortunately, the company closed its doors in 2015, but not before making some great knives. The brand was resurrected in 2018 as Canal Street Cutlery Co-Op & focused on making very small batches of high quality traditional knives. As a Co-Op, it was owned by the knife makers who worked there. Unfortunately, the business model couldn't hold up & the entity again ceased production.

Well, I'll have to fess up, I bought one this morning. ::facepalm:: Like Phil said, it was so deeply discounted I figured, hey, what the hell, why not? ::hmm:: Will ship Tuesday. If the retail price of the knives is discounted so low, that means that no one is buying them. Maybe it will turn out to be a real collectable just based on it's rarity. ::idea:: Hope so.

I have been watching this knife and although it's not a user (IMHO) I still think it is definitely something I will add to my Canal Street gathering! I already have many CS knives, although my favorite is the Pinch Lock Backs.

I just ordered one of the Carry the Football knives and I can't wait to add it to my selection of CS knives. I had heard at one point that they were looking at making a letter opener similar to this knife....I hope they do so I can add that one as well

You guys at Canal Street Cutlery kep up the good work and keep thinking outside the box as well!

Thanks

Canal Street....I usually buy from Mike, however, he didn't have one listed. This is the first one I have bought direct from CS.

Except the ones I have bought at the Blade Show.....both Wally and Mike were there! I like Mike, therefore I choose to buy from him whenever possible.

I received my Canal Street "Carry the Football" today. I must say that it is one beautiful piece of steel, single edge and scary sharp, beautifully crafted with a hefty, solid feel. The only draw-back I can see is if you have very large hands it will not fit you very well, but then, I didn't buy to carry nor do I have large hands. It would however make a great neck knife. I am very pleased with the construction and finish on the knife. I personally like the knife and it will go into my catch of keepers.

tjmurphy It would however make a great neck knife.

I said that a long time a go. Now that you have one. Do you think the sheath will not hold it up as a neck knife. Due to the weight will you trust it at a football game to stay in it's sheath? Not that I would take it to a football game... ::smirk:: ::smirk:: ::tounge::

Hey Ken - Well I'll tell ya. The knife itself is one magnificient hunk of steel, a beautifully executed knife. The handle and sheath are extra heavy duty leather that should last several life-times. The sheath has a locking strap that holds the knife securly in the sheath and the snap is heavy duty. The knife fits the sheath perfectly. It would make a very fine neck knife though the belt loop might be a little much, rubbing on the skin. I bought it as a collector piece at less than half the MSRP ($120). I'm glad that I bought it now, though I'll probably never carry it. It will be cool to show the folks that come to visit, especially the football nerds.

You'll have a PM in just a second.

IMHO it is not a carrying knife! Having said that, I believe it is a very well made knife and I bought it as a collector...not a carry knife. It is unique in it's own way and I treasure it....now I need that Matching Letter Opener to display with it!
