Old Fancy Handle Straight Razor`s

I like collecting old straight razors.
Especially ones stamped with old pocket knife company names.

I doubt very many American cutlery companies actually made their own razors. Most that I have seen have been made either in Germany or Shefffield England for all the major knife companies in this country.

I guess because it took a highly skilled cutler to hollow grind them.

Here are a few fancy handle ones to get this thread started. ::tu::

I thought folks around here might have some nice old razors stored away. ::tu::

Here's one of mine, not a fancy design, but still a fancy handle in my book, a REAL ivory handle, the only one I've found so far, the handles are about 2 millimeters or 1/16 of an inch thick. I can't make out the stamp, looks to be I.E. & R.S. Richards Edinburgh?

First time I've noticed this forum. Here's a few from my collection:

First is a group of 3 razors;top to bottom:
A horn handled razor with piquing(ca 1840-1850)and shield marked,"J.Bingham's Celebrated Razor"
A clear tortoise shell handled razor marked,"Frederick's Celebrated Razor Sheffield" and "Clean Sweep" on the blade.
Another tortoise shell handled razor marked,"Manufatured by Frederick Reynolds Sheffield"

Second is a Wade and Butcher marked,"American Razor" with an eagle motif. The wood handle is a replacement.

Third is a group of corn knives both folding and fixed and a money clip with a miniature Weck razor on it that folds but is not sharp.

Fourth is a group of corn razors of various manufacturers.

Fifth is marked,"Curley's Ideal" with a folding guard that allows it to go on either the right or left side;an early safety feature.

Sixth is a VERY old(ca 1810)razor marked,"Deane"

Seventh is marked,"Empire Knife Co. West Winsted Connecticut"with an oval shield.

Eighth is a group of fancy razors of various manufacturers.

Last 2 pictures are of a single marked,"Wade,Wingfield, and Rowbotham" which is part of a seven day set and the picture of the set.

Not too many here at AAPK are interested in old Straight Razor`s, maybe this one will peak your interest.

Jigged bone handle Razor`s are RARE.

I don`t care who made them, they are not easy to find.

Smooth bone, Ivory, Horn, Tortoise shell, etc., are all premium handle material for a straight razor. But these handle materials are much easier to obtain, celluloid being the easiest to find.

Genuine Stag is hard to find as well.

Here is the only Jigged Bone handle razor I have ever had.

:D

I stumbled across my four razors the other day. I haven’t given these a thought in several years. All sorts of good things happen when you’re out of work. I was surprised to see what I had.

I also included an eraser, from Joseph Rodgers.

Thanks MB,
the Clauss is unused from what I can determin. The container is a little scruffy, but it is a nice pair. I like them all, really. Didn't know what nice razors I had. The Rodgers has a horn handle. One thing I did learn from you and that was to use mineral oil on knives. Thesr razors were dry and unatractive, but the mineral oil made them stand out. I celebrated by taking a swig of the stuff to start the evening off and am now headed for a casual stroll in the woods. Thanks again MB.

Sorry for some of the sub par pictures .... I'm still learning how to take quality photos .... I need a tripod !!!!

Some of my favorites ... for no rhyme or reason .... just cause I like them. I started collecting straight razors about 25 years ago.
