My Upcoming Surgery

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

My Upcoming Surgery

Post by LongBlade »

My friends of AAPK... a place I like to call one of my homes...

– This Friday afternoon July 22 I am going in for surgery to have an umbilical hernia repaired which is not an option any longer for me at this point… in truth though I am in my early 60s I have never had surgery… I am abit apprehensive to say the least… Trying to keep myself distracted as the time approaches but not easy…. if you don't see me online for awhile you will know why...

Thanks!!
Lee

Lee, know this my friend. We will all be with you buddy rooting for a speedy recovery. I have a friend who went through the same procedure and came through with flying colors. Don't worry you will do fine. Them docs are pretty good these days.

It's a piece of cheese. Can't lift anything for a couple of weeks but it's a good excuse to be lazy. I had it done a few years ago and don't recall anything about it that gave me pause. It's nice to get your belly button back.

I just had a hernia repaired but mine was a little lower, and it wasn't that bad even though everything went wrong for me. I couldn't keep down the pain meds. so the first day was a little painful until we got something that worked that I could keep down and mine is taking a little longer than usual to heal. Several friend who had it done were working after a week and one was out rowing a boat across a windy lake a week after. I milked it for a month and was careful after that for several more weeks but I just unloaded 22 squares of siding into a garage by myself. I get paranoid with any surgery and have only had a couple but the anticipation is almost always worse than the surgery. I asked my doctor which surgeon he would have do mine if he was having it done and he told me this is "Bread and Butter" surgery and any surgeon can do this. Enjoy your time being pampered and buy a bunch of your favorite snacks for your sitting time. I cleaned and oiled all my knives, and my wife had to fetch the knife rolls because they were over 5 lbs. each. Milk it a little.___Dave

Lee,
Will be praying you have a successful surgery and a quick recovery. Also praying the Lord will give you comfort and peace concerning your apprehension leading up to Friday's surgery.
I endured a hernia repair back about 36 years ago, it was a big deal back then, my son had a hernia repair about 10 years ago and it was done as out patient surgery. What a difference, I had 6 weeks on workers comp pay and he was back at work the next week, light duty of course.
Hang in there, it should be fine!

60 years old and no surgery sounds like you've dodged the scalpel. Had the same surgery about 6 months ago. Doc told me not to lift any thing over 8 pounds for a couple of weeks, I ask him if that included the vacuum sweeper he said yes I sent him a Star Bucks coupon. Good time to relax ::tu::

I will pray for you too Lee.

I have had more surgeries than I can remember, somewhere north of 40 surgeries and I turned 65 last week!
I can tell you one thing, there were a number of those 40+ surgeries that literally saved my life.

Surgery is no sweat Lee, God has it under His control and you in His hand! ::nod::

You might be having your surgery right now. Wish i had seen this yeaterday so you could read this: I spent my working life in operating rooms. There is no other place where your life is as safe as it is in an operating room.
Least you can have this to read when you are out of surgery/recovery room.

I missed this yesterday, Lee. I'll be thinking of you, and praying that everything goes well with your ssurgery and recovery.

Be sure to check in with all of us when you are able. BTW, all those knives weighing down your pockets won't be healthy for awhile, so I'll be happy to help you carry them. :)

Hey guys - thanks to all your thoughts, prayers and all the support and encouragement. I made it through fine... Dr told my wife after the surgery it was an easy repair - he actually said boring  :D .... meaning nothing complicated... he warned me recovery the first few days or so are painful.. And he is no doubt right... So staying on pain meds as directed .... even with those getting in and out of bed is not something real easy... Thank goodness for iPhone so I am able to check with you guys!!! I couldn't sit up long enough at the moment for a computer...

Thanks again my friends!!!

Milk it as long as you can get away with it Lee. These opportunities don't come along very often. Of course those women folk are wiley creatures so you may not be able to get away with much. 8)

Lee, I kind of refrained from posting until afterward. I had similar surgery a couple of years back. It really hurt for the first few days.
It will get better, just try to stay ahead of it with the meds, but don't abuse.
