Remington Rxxx6 (stag)
Remington Rxxx6 (stag)
Remington made a few stag handle knives. I have seen very few of them. Thought we needed a special place for these knives. I bought this one and I did very little research before buying it, (actually none). It's a R7766. From the pictures I thought I was buying a pen knife but when I got it I was very surprised with its size. Measures 4 1/2 inches long. The stag is exceptional in my opinion. Thanks for looking and if you have some rare Remington stag knives I'd love to see them.

Re: Remington Rxxx6 (stag)
Keith I know nothing about the knife or pattern, but I do know some pretty stag when I see it.

Beautiful knives Keith and yes the stag on your knives are super nice. Congratulations on the R7766 find, very impressive.

Picked this R3056 stockman today at the Amarillo gun/knife show. I'm only going to let you see one blade as the other two are pretty disappointing.

Re: Remington Rxxx6 (stag)
OK. The R3056 I just posted isn't a R3056. It's 4 1/4 inches long. I can't see a stamp on it but I believe it is exactly like the R4563. But has stag handles. This isn't the first knife I've run across that makes me scratch my head. I have another knife with a stamp on it of R3163. Again. Has stag handles. A guy who's opinion I value told me that the handle material didn't match 100% of the time coming out of the Remington factory. Here is my R3165. Would love to have your guys take on this. Thanks.
Re: Remington Rxxx6 (stag)
Kieth the first two you posted are great looknig old knives.
There are no hard fast rules when it comes to knives that were made back in the day. Given that it is still very hard for me to initially consider a knife that goes against documented material and pattern codes to be correct. Both of the last two posted knives fall into that category for me.
I don't like the looks of the stag on the 3 blade stockman knife. Knife looks okay but the stag looks modern to me.
The stag cattle knife looks better but I wouldn't say good enough to go against known documentation. Bolsters look very round and resurfaced.
I also do not like the difference in color or the prominence of the pins in the bolsters.

If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

I appreciate you looking and your comments on them Wayne.
Re: Remington Rxxx6 (stag)
I don't think the 3 blade stockman began life with stag handle scales. Should be jigged bone. Don't like the way the shield was put on. Other knife may be ok. Not sure on that one.
Re: Remington Rxxx6 (stag)
Here is a R3056 stockman. Has 2 cracks on the back stag but I'm ok with it.

Keith, going to hold off a little to give others the opportunity to assess and evaluate the knives you are displaying. Just saying I agree with Wayne but I personally am a purest with how dedicated Remington was in the details, quality and craftsmanship of their knives before the transition with DuPont. I believe that in the early part of the 1930's to the close of Remington's cutlery division is where there is ambiguity in cutlery production. This is where I believe that most of the time, select knife mechanics take advantage in remaking, refurbishing or creating fake Remington for the eager market. Not saying anything about yours...just stating my thoughts.

Re: Remington Rxxx6 (stag)
Here are a few for a look see. The lighting does not do justice to the real fire and beauty in these pearl handles!
Now I know that a few of the fixed blades are not Remington, However before I settled into the Remington collection...I collected around 350 or so other knives. These are just a sample of a few. Anyone know Butch Taylor? He makes one mean knife!
The other photos are of my photo box, my knife cleaning station and my other passion...my music. Been playing since I was 12 years old. Played in a few bands, made an album with the Gregory Folks Singers and sang on T.V. for a while on the California Tonight Show on the CBS network. Long time ago in a land far, far away.

Your all right Rocky. You just got caught up in the excitement of talking about Remington knives. Your knives look great. Especially like the gunstocks.

LOL Keith, as the "ol sayin' goes," if I hav'ta tell ya everything..I'd hav'ta to...well you know." I've been a jack of all trades at times and managed over the years to master a few... If truth be told and I shared everything I've had a finger/hand or foot in...well folks would consider me pushin' the truth a bit, let's just say I am living a full and diversified life thus far. The good Lord gave me a few talents and the desire to try them out. We'll leave her at that.

Thanks Rocky. I was excited to get it
Re: Remington Rxxx6 (stag)
Thanks Roger. You have seen a lot of different knives. Have you ever seen a cork screw that operates that way?peanut740 wrote:That`s a cool pattern Keith.
