Remington I.D.

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

Remington I.D.

Post by upnorth »

This Remington came in a box of knives, and looks pretty good. I wonder if the Remington experts can help me place it in time and/or provenance!
In other words, is it genuine? Is it a reproduction?
When was it made? If not Remington, then who made it?
Lotsa questions, and I thank you in advance!!

That is a genuine Remington. Probably mid 1930's , Pyremite scales. I don't remember the pattern number but I can look it up in the morning if no one else comes up with it. That sure is a nice one. ::tu::

The knife belongs to Tom Boutin. I agree with you RC, it appears genuine to me. I'd love to hear some more opinions - anyone else??

I looked in the C-5 Catalog and the C 30 catalog. I found 2 patterns that resemble the OP knife:

1. R B041, Brown Bone; Length closed 3 3/8"

2. RB 1240, Brown Bone; Length closed 5"

I seem to recall seeing a barlow in black pyremite, but can't find a reference. Is this knife considered "white" pyremite? I don't collect the pyremite knives so I don't follow them very closely.

It looks old to me and it looks Remington to me, but I couldn't find a pyremite handle with a single clip blade in my reference material.

I've got a couple of them in my collection. I'll try to take a picture of them.
