Remington Knife Pick

I've seen several of these running through ebay in the last couple of months. I wonder if it is old or new??

New. I remember seeing a ad in knifeworld years and years ago, with a supposed wharehouse find of these. I think this was back in the late 70's or early 80's. It might have been in The national knife collectors magazine.

here is what i have been told by others in "SHOOTIN THE REMINGTON BREEZE" about these....

1: some are real.....but they were faked later!
2: all are FAKE they never made these!

Most reproduction Remington knife picks have nothing on the back side. That is the front side with "Remington Dupont". On the back side is "Fine Cutlery" . Most all of the repoductions are crude compared to originals. There are some repo's out with jigged bone scales. Winchester knife picks are also reproduced.

No need to be sorry, I didn't buy it, just saw them available for sale and was curious. I don't think that I would use a knife pick anyway. To my mind I think that that is how the nail nicks and long pulls get chipped out.

TJ, was looking this up in a few books I have and Mel Brewster stated in his book REMINGTON BULLET KNIVES, that Remington did make these openers but the original are rare and hard to come by. Most are reproductions. But still...work pretty good for the job they were designed to do.

HEY JB! Reportedly the repos are same size and shape as the original Remington opener's. Can't find any info on actual dates made or how to tell the difference between them. Will keep dig'n and if I uncover something I'll let 'cha know.

So if we deduce this down a bit we can "guess" that the opener's may have been made from 1933 and afterwards since DuPont de Nemours & Co.,Inc bought 60% of the shares of Remington Company in that year and DuPont is stamped on that opener? However some have the Remington UMC round shield stamped on the opener, does that mean that they were made from 1912 when Remington Arms Company merged with the Union metallic Cartridge Co. OMG... yet one could make the argument that Remington started making knives in 1920 and that would be the beginning of when the openers were potentially made. Even the experts are unsure and the originals are rare. I would love to know the resource where Knife-nut obtained his info. Rocky
