Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

I had the privilege to handle an absolutely mint Remington surveyor knife at the OKCA show in April in Eugene Oregon. I am lucky to have a friend that has one of the best Remington collections on earth and he lets me handle a few of the rare ones.

espn, your 2 Remingtons are very nice! Is the teardrop a pattern R173 ? It is in really nice condition. I was unfamiliar with the Surveyor's knife until you showed it. I like the more elegant look of your knife as compared to the other scout / utility patterns.

Harold, is your knife a R3313? It is very nice. I like the "strong" clip blade with nice swedge.

Jerry the 4 blade is a 3313 and the whittler is a 3243, both made on the same frame.

Outstanding espn77. I bet you are the only person in Muleshoe with anything like that. I came through there yesterday and I thought about you . Is there anywhere locally there that you do any knife shopping?

Ha!! I suspected as much. That's my preferred route from Atlanta to San Francisco so I come through there about 4 times a month.

Yeah. Maybe we can get together one day. I usually spend the night at Clovis when I come through.

To answer your question about if any body around d here is into them. If somebody is into knives it's Randall's. I don't argue that they are good but to light for me. I calculate weight to quality when I hold a knife. Back in the 70's the government wanted military knives. Opened it up to the makers and it came down to Randall and my friend Francis. Well I guess we all know the rest of the story. They felt he wasn't big enough to meet there demands. To me his knives are way high end without the famous name. Here is my favorite one. A macartta handle with flawless seems.
