2nd cut stag or bone trapper, let's take a vote :)
So I got this 2nd cut USA trapper.
I think it's 2nd cut stag with the stamp 6254. Yes 6 typically indicates bone.
A lot of already know the story of how they dyed some second cut stag that have it more of an odd bone color, which I think this is. In which they stamped 6254

Pretty sure it's bone. I have a Case jack somewhere with similar color bone handles - sort of a dark tan color.

I could be wrong but I thought they used a little bit of a different jigging pattern on the second cut stag. I vote bone on that one.

I've seen the jigging and dyes a few different colors.

Jigging looks like 2nd cut to me.

Bone. But I'd also like to know if you wear gloves when you take photos of all your knives...

Ah the age old question. To further confuse matters I can tell you from experience that Case produced this handle material with both a "5" and a "6" handle code. Most of the time this color (front handle) will have a "5". Regardless of the number, Old timers refer to it as second cut stag.

I was figuring it was stag, due to color. But I'm happy either way.Blade Runner wrote:Ah the age old question. And xx case xx, not always do I wear gloves, I do if I'm handling he knife for the last time before I put it up in my roll. Which is usually just after I take pics. And finger prints in pics drive me a little crazy. On mine anways

There was also a wine/maroon color second cut which is quite rare. Again it can be found stamped both ways, but this one is almost always stamped with a 6. Old schoolers still refer to it as second cut stag! I believe I contributed pictures of both versions in Steve's book.XxTestedxX wrote:I was figuring it was stag, due to color.
