Case CV blade knives in the 80's

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case CV blade knives in the 80's

Were Case knives in the 80's made with CV blades? How would you be able to tell? Specifically a 6347 stockman
Thanks

The tang stamp will tell you. A 1980's era Case made with stainless steel blades will have a lightning style SS between the dots (back of blade on secondary blades will have an SS stamp. A CV steel blade will not have the Lightning SS. Top photo CV tang stamp, second & third photo SS stamps. OH

Hello, OH, to take this topic a step further, what about the Case 70's knives. I have a mini trapper , (pic enclosed) , there is nothing to indicated SS or CV. Does the tang stamp give a clue, like the 80's knives?
Thank you, your information is appreciated and valuable.

On a 70's knife, (and all earlier) if there is no stamp of "SS" or "STAINLESS" anywhere, then the knife is CV.

On a stainless Case pocket knife, the tang stamp will be CASE XX STAINLESS (1940-64) or CASE XX STAINLESS USA (1965-69) or CASE XX STAINLESS USA with 10 dots to one dot (1970-79).

Usually the secondary blades will also have SS on the tangs if the knife is stainless. Case did this to keep track of SS vs CV secondary blades during assembly so as not to mix up the steels.

Again, if none of these marks are on the knife, it is CV.

Thanks, I did not know that. It will help when looking for those 70's, and 80's, knives.
