Amber Bone Display

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Amber Bone Display

Post by philco »

I happened across this Case countertop display a while back with the Amber Bone insert in it. I have been trying to round up the appropriate knife for each slot in the display insert. I apologize for the sideways photo but that's the best I could manage with my I phone. As you can see there's an open slot and so far I can't figure out what model knife fits there. I've searched ebay numerous times and thus far have failed to find an amber bone handled pen knife. I also suspect the 47 model stockman is not the correct knife for the slot it's in. The fit is not "right" like for the other knives. If any of you Case guys can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.

Phil, Are the model numbers listed on top? Expanding the pic and zooming in, it looks like there are model numbers up there to the left of the prices, but it looks like they all start with 6.5 which is Case's designation for Bonestag

Wade, the open slot is way too small for that canoe.

Mike the numbers on the top band are not for the insert I have. I just stuck that in there to fill up the hole.

::hmm:: possible. I wish I knew the closed length of that one.

edit: I checked ebay for listings of that model in other handle materials and found one with the size posted. It said the knife was 3 1/8 inches closed. That fits with the size of the slot in the display insert so I think we're on to something. Now who's got one for sale cheap? :D

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Now I wish I'd asked y'all months ago.

Phil I noticed while I was searching that a lot of the new ones being offered had that item number on the listing. The one on your board says 232 and the item number on that pen with scissors was 233 so I am betting that a regular pen knife goes there not the Eisenhower which is 3 1/8 while a 33 pen is 2 7/8.

Yes the Case product code 232 corresponds to the bone handled Eisenhower, 06263 SS.

As for the spot you have the 47 in, could it be for a 6318 or possible an older 47 that had a long clip? ::hmm::

There is a 6318 in a slot near the top of the insert. It fits like a glove there.

Phil, I believe this should be the TB6339 sowbelly stockman. Looks to me like it should fit the slot. If Steve has a Case Item number/product code secret decoder ring maybe he can confirm. ::shrug::

I couldn't find that Eisenhower knife at the Dalton, Ga. show. I flew all the way to Oregon to look for one, and none were to be had at the OKCA show either. Finally, one showed up on ebay and now it's headed to my house.

Glad I declined to bid further on that. It was getting north of what I wanted to pay and I'm not trying to fill a display (yet... ::paranoid:: ) so I hope I passed some of the savings along to you. I'm trying to be less of a hawk on amber bone stuff. ::smirk::

That listing closed over the weekend, IIRC, and it's probably less than half a day into its journey to Phil's cave.
