1920-1940 CASE TESTED XX OR EARLIER ??
I HAVE A 1920-1940 CIRCA CASE TESTED XX KNIFE. IT MAY BE AN EARLIER MODEL. THIS IS A LARGE KNIFE OVER 4" CLOSED, POSSIBLE CATTLEMAN?? NO MODEL NUMBER. TANG STAMP IS A LARGE "C" WITH THE TRAILING LINE OF THE C GOING UNDER THE OTHER LETTERS. THE "E" IS UNIQUE UPPER CASED LETTER. UNDER THE LINE IS "TESTED XX".PLEASE VIEW THE PICTURES AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. SORRY FOR THE POOR VIEW OF TANG STAMP, VERY WORN BUT YOU CAN SEE IT CLEARLY UNDER MAGNIFICATION. THANKS-LBW

Your knife is a 6394-1/2LP greenbone cigar pattern . The book value for mint condition is $5500 , however , actual sale value of a mint one would be around $3500 . Considering the apparent condition of your knife , I feel that it's value would be in the neighborhood of $500 - $600 . This is my opinion only and someone else may have a much different one .

Re: 1920-1940 CASE TESTED XX OR EARLIER ??
THANKS FOR LOOKING BOB. I BOUGHT IT YESTERDAY, (MY BIRTHDAY) FROM AN OLDER GENTLEMAN AT A FLEA MARKET STORE ALONG WITH A COUPLE OTHER OLD CASE KNIVES. IT IS STRAIGHT OUT OF A LARGE MIXED LOT OF KNIVES AND HAS NOT BEEN CLEANED IN ANY WAY. THE WALK AND TALK OF THIS KNIFE IS AMAZING ,NO WOBBLE AT ALL, NO CRACKS AT ALL ON THE BROWN HANDLES. THE WEAR ON THE BOLSTERS IS IN THE ONE SPOT ONLY AND OF COURSE THE BLADES ARE USED CONDITION BUT NOT CHIPPED OR BROKEN OFF. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT CLEANING?

HI DAVE. NOT LOOKING TO LET THIS ONE GO. I WILL LEAVE THIS IN MY PERSONAL COLLECTION JUST BECAUSE OF THE AGE AND HISTORY THIS KNIFE HAS LIVED THROUGH. WHERE CAN I GO TO RESEARCH THIS?

THANK YOU DAVE I WISHED THERE WAS ONE ALSO! CAN YOU GIVE INPUT ON "CLEAN OR NOT TO CLEAN" AN OLD KNIFE? AS YOU CAN SEE I ADDED A FEW MORE LOOKS AT THE CASE KNIFE.

Re: 1920-1940 CASE TESTED XX OR EARLIER ??
I would NOT clean that one at all....
Rub it with a DRY or oily rag, if ya wish..
Cleaning is really for terribly bad ones or ones
that would be MINT with a shine-up..
Shame that clip blade is so short, or that
thang WOULD be a valuble piece..
Enjoy yer find.. I certainly would

HERE ARE SOME BLADE MEASUREMENTS FOR YOU. WHAT IS THE STANDARD CLIP BLADE LENGTH FOR THIS KNIFE, THIS IS JUST OVER 3". IT DOSN'T APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN SHORTENED. LBW

Re: 1920-1940 CASE TESTED XX OR EARLIER ??
Rocky,
The easiest way to tell how short it is, is to look down with the blades closed. The main blade should pretty much fill up the "well". It should be about where the black line is. Yours might be a quarter of an inch or so short.
I'm with Dave, I would NOT clean it. I think it helps to authenticate its age.

Bob, and others, I would greatly appreaciate it if you could take one more look at "all" the pictures of this case knife and give me your finale analysis as to model, handle material,( why no shield), approx. year made in circa 1920-1940 or earlier. Condition related to age and use. Finally price guide estimate of value so I can catalog it appropriately. I am new at collecting but eager to learn as much as possible. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND VIEWS, iT'S GOOD TO BE FRIENDS WITH OTHER CASE KNIFE ENTHUSIAST!! Gratefully-LBW

Re: 1920-1940 CASE TESTED XX OR EARLIER ??
LB... yer clip blade is shortened from sharpening and general use..IT DOSN'T APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN SHORTENED. LBW
And most ALL are.. these knives were bought 90 yrs ago to USE.. not for show.
Yer clip blade is short..it should FILL the length of the blade well it rides in.
Yours clearly falls short of even reaching the bolster edge. Yer clip is short.
It shud have a profile similar to these three pictured. Altho these are not the
same pattern as yours, the clip blades shud resemble.
Did I mention, yer clip blade is short. It hurts the value but does NOT render the
knife worthless,,, its a oldie and a cutie to keep and cherish..

Re: 1920-1940 CASE TESTED XX OR EARLIER ??
I guess that I wasn't wide awake this morning when I looked at your knife and didn't notice that the clip blade is 1/4" - 3/8" short . Dave is correct on the value ($250 - $300) . I don't know why Case chose not to put shields on some of their knives during this period . I would clean all of the loose dirt from the knife then use a good metal polish (Metalglo or Semichrome) to finish the job then lightly coat it with "3 in one oil" before storing it .
