My Rough Black collection

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

not a bad mode to own there!

Still on the hunt for an unused model.

hard to find models for me, 6205R/Muskrat/6347PU/64047 ( well not always hard to find, just waiting for the right price, I buy a lot of knives, need to be patient for the right deals or ill go dead broke)

I do have a 6299 XX era I would trade for a nice pattern I'm missing, straight trade or trade up with some $$.

Nothing against used knives, just trying to limit this set to mint/near.

Also I don't consider xx/tested of the same pattern as duplicate, any slight difference will be considered...

-blade configuration
-Circle C vs. XX era C
-anything else I'm missing?

I have a 6318 Tested coming in from Muskratman, and a 6318 XX coming from a good friend... And most exciting, 6375LP coming from one of our members.

Hey Zach,
Great collection you have going there. Great knives. You asked "what am I missing". Not sure what your end goal is but CASE made a XX 63055. Rare bird. Dont see a RB one in there. There are all sorts of pens, stockmens and small Jacks.
Hard to help without knowing " goal" of the set. Maybe I missed something. You have a nice collection going whatever the end goal.
Regards, Jerry

Well maybe one day I'll try to have them all, mainly after the larger patterns before I persue small ones, unless the price is right.

6205R is my next big hunt

Jerry that's a good looking knife, but I just can't jog myself into an appreciation for the rough black. I love the slick black, seems to give certain knives a sophisticated look. I'd love to get my hands on a bone 63055.

I have a question.

I have seen dozens of 6488LP rough black congress in the last few years, poor-mint condition.

What I haven't seen much but a handful of is 6488 Reg pull rough black, I was thinking, since rough black was used early in the XX era, and also the Longpulls being early in the XX era, what's the rarity of a Regular pull 88 rough black? It almost seems likely its more scarce.

all opinions are welcome. I eventually plan to get a photo album of every rough black configuration out there. That will be quite the task.

Those are beauties, a nice collection. I've always liked the older Case knives in Rough Black. I have a few but nothing like the ones you have shown here. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Hey Zach,

Steve has a pretty rare 055 pattern. I know you are looking for near mint but might cleanup well.
This is the only other I have personally seen.
