Boker USA large stockman 8573

Post by 313 Mike »

I just scored this beautiful Boker 8573 and am trying to get as much info as I can about it...I researched as much as I could here on the site, but am having some trouble narrowing down an approximite year of manufacture.
I found a link to the Boker cataog from '72-'73, and the 8573 is listed there as being the "Large Premium Stock Knife", except in that catalog there is the Boker etch on the main blade which mine does not have, also that catalog lists the knife as having "stag type" handles which I assume is delrin, and mine is bone not delrin.
From what I was able to deduce the bolsters and the long matchbook pull mark it as being an older knife, but what about the bone handle scales? What clue does that give me as to a possible date range? Late '60's perhaps?
Really hoping some of you Boker experts will chime in here and help me out, I really like this knife, it's in great shape, and I'd like to have as much info on it as I can. Thanks much.
Mike

I think early 1960s Mike.
The shield indicates definitely pre - 1975.
Boker began using delrin in the early to mid 1960s.
I'll see if I can find your knife in an early 1960s catalog.

Hey great info Blue! Definitely let me know if you find it...much appreciated!
Is the shield any sort of a clue? I have a few other bone handled Bokers that have the federal shield, this one has the tree...

Yep, the USA made Bokers manufactured after 1975 had a "trademark registered" (r) symbol on the shield.
The ones with the federal shield would be even older, probably early 1950s.
