Original or reproduction??????

Post by knives-are-quiet »

Any info on this knife.
It's my first Boker.
I tried to get some info on it before the auction ended but couldn't find anything about it.
So I took a chance on it, bid and won.
Not too sure if it is an original or a reproduction.
These are some pictures posted from the auction.
It is marked with the number 610.
The knife is on it's way through the mail so I don't have it in hand yet.

The knife is an original model 610. The tang stamp is Heinr. Boker & Co. Baumwerk-Solingen Germany-Alemania which dates it to 1932-1950. That particular tang stamp has been used on reproductions, but that is not the case for this knife; it's original. Congrats. ::tu::

Thanks for the info people~
The pictures of this knife are not that great.
From what I can tell from them the knife was used but looks to be in pretty good shape.
Won't really be able to tell the real condition till I get it in my hands.
I won it for 51 bucks.
Think that's a good price for this brand and type of knife from the pictures posted?
I know the cheaper you can get a knife for the better but the starting price was 49 dollars.
I liked the look of the knife and no one else was bidding, so I took the chance.
Just wanted to know why no one else bid. Maybe the price was too much?
The seller didn't even post the measurments of this knife either.
Anyone know the measurments?
Also, what type of handles? Bone???

The handles are bone and it is a big knife, over 4" in the closed position. If the knife is in good, sound mechanical condition, you got a great price on it. Whenever I have seen these old, orginal 610's with bone handles at knife shows they are usually priced $125.00 and up, depending on condition. Boker also made these knives with black delrin handles. It looked to me like it had been sharpened. The seller mentioned that it had "some" snap opening & closing. This may have stopped some people from bidding. It also looked like it hadn't seen any oil in quiet awhile. Below are some pictures for comparison's sake.

Got this Boker 610 knife in the mail today.
There is nothing wrong with the knife mechanically.
No wobble in the blade and a perfect snap open and closing.
Bone handles are in excellent shape. No cracks or chips.
The only problem is the scuff marks in the blade due to someone’s poor attempt at sharpening.
Probably done with a back of the can opener knife sharpener.
I'm just going to leave the marks. It's not worth taking a chance on ruining the blade by taking it to the buffer.
