boker blade etch ?

hello, when did boker start putting etching on there blades? i had a knife trader telling me today that the knife i was looking at was made in the 60's. but it had blade etching on it. i thought they came out with that in the 90's. but i am guessing .thanks for the help

I've seen blade etching on Boker's as early as the 1930's. Here's an example from Sanders Knives AAPK store.

I have several examples in my collection of etched Boker blades from the 1950s - 1960s.

It just occurred to me that you may have meant the frosted etch. I've seen these as early as 1971. This one is the Boker/Wiss 1971 LTD Edition knife.

hey blue. the knife i was taking about is in the catalog. it is the 4 blade congress 5474. the etching i was wondering about was like the one i have here in this picture. thanks for the help. denny

The earliest I've seen that "TREE BRAND CLASSIC" blade etch was in 1976, on the BONE series knives.
Before that I think they only used the "TREE BRAND" etch. This is only based on what I have seen personally, so they may have used it earlier than that, and I've just never seen it.
Something else interesting about yours is the year 1990 is etched on the blade. I've only seen that done on one other knife. It was from 1989. I wonder how long they did that... :roll:

lol! i dont know. but we will find out someday, i hope. thats the only one i have seen. on the other one the guy said if it has the three rings on the bolster it is old. like the one in the 72 catalog. it looks just like the one in the picture but doesnt have the serial number tag on it. thanks for your help blue. denny
