It's hard to read, but the main blade tang on that knife looks like...
H. BOKER & CO
SOLINGEN
GERMANY
The Knife World article that Hawke posted shows a similar stamp that Zalesky calls the "G10," which he says was used c.1891–1944. He doesn't say if that one's "pretty solid" or an "educated guess."
Edit: on the OTHER HAND, here's one with the same shield (and tang stamp?) that doesn't look old at all:

WOW! and the mysteries continue to filter in. Cool finds "ole blue" and dixon!
Looking forward to see how all this transpires. Hope we do in fact have another "older" shield I can add to the HBN site.

Well, now we know that at least two of them exist. They both look to be of recent manufacture to me (<30yrs). Reckon this one was originally intended for purchase in another country?
TJT, does Boker have a company historian?

Re: Henry Boker Shield
Sent an email to both sellers of these knives. One said it was purchased recently at an estate auction. Here's the response I got from the other:
Good Morning, the knife was made in the early '80s. I bought it from knife
sellers like the many bid dealers SMKW and others, but don't remember the
exact source. Over the time period of a few monthe I bought about 4 for my
knife shop. You're right about the knife and it's Tang mark & Shield, it's
a departure from Tree Brand. The knife could be much older but I believe
early '80s is correct. I have all the original receipts for the knives but
don't know exactly where.

Unfortunately, I'm the closest to a historian we have. We are always trying to piece things together, between Dan and I.rangerbluedog wrote:Well, now we know that at least two of them exist. New member here, been reading posts for quite sometime. Was just wondering if you guys have found anymore info on the henry boker shield.
I bought a henry boker large 4bld congress with this shield in 1998, and was told it was made in the 1930's, thanks.

Re: Henry Boker Shield
I don't have any new information, but over the past few months I've seen a few more of these on ebay. Any seller willing to offer info stated that they were made in the 1980s. I doubt they are any older that that.
Quality knives though.
Still no "proof", such as reciepts, old ads, etc.

Re: Henry Boker Shield
I just saw this one on ebay, for sale by James Parker.
He says it is an 80s model.
It has the standard tang stamp:
Boker
Solingen
Germany
