Re: #78 American Jack
Are they going to make these or what?
Re: #78 American Jack
My guess is yes. It's not on the Production Schedule yet as you may have noticed......then it looks like there are a few SFO's coming next and some #71's. Probably won't see the #78 until the end of January or so......
Only a guess on my part, who knows what they will do.

I saw some in what I assumed was ebony. Also, some brown jigged something that is presumably bone.

Re: #78 American Jack
Seems like,GEC has been using more & more of the Macassar Ebony ( with the brown streaks ) on the Tidioute label knives ???----than the Gabon Ebony (really black) ?????___for the ""black-black"' knives---- the African Blackwood models have taken the place, and have the ""Northfield Blings""______always somethin' goin' on for everyone !!!!!

Re: #78 American Jack
There will be a jig bone model in both Tidioute and Northfield, ebony, blackwood, acrylic, and burnt, natural, and genuine stag models. These will start to show up late this week or early next.

Re: #78 American Jack
I want/prefer coal black ebony. I think GEC really missed the boat by not putting a shield on this knife, however I am pleased that it's not another all steel model.

Re: #78 American Jack
There is a Northfield model in African Blackwood that should fill the bill. It'll have a shield and be jet black!biglmbass wrote:I want/prefer coal black ebony. I think GEC really missed the boat by not putting a shield on this knife, however I am pleased that it's not another all steel model.

Re: #78 American Jack
Just got 'em in tonight! The Tidioutes are plain with no shield or etch, just a good solid old timey knife. The Northfields have the typical bling. The Frame is similar in size to the Case 31 1/2 but is a little more compact ; the blades have solid half-stops and tight lockup. Photos up tomorrow.

Re: #78 American Jack
The factory supplier knows that GEC / customers like the darker ebony; but many times if you are going to make them - you have to make them with what is available. They don't use gabon very often, but what they do use will come with a lot of brown one time and mainly black the next. Just the luck of the draw on the boards that get shipped to you.
But it might surprise you how many people ask for "a lighter colored ebony". I do think they should not run both the ebony and blackwood in the same runs of knives. Generally leaves a lot of ebony sitting on the shelf.
