GEC Pricing
GEC Pricing
Here's a question that I have always wondered about. Did GEC intentionally create retail prices way above the actual selling price in order to create the illusion of 'getting a good deal' or were the prices just beaten down by compitition? You'd think that there would have to be some markup, or nobody would bother to sell them.

Re: GEC Pricing
Neither. GEC has, from the beginning, enforced what everyone else calls a MAP (minimum advertised price). They call it a DSR (dealer suggested retail). That is the price that you see on the items in most dealers / distributors stores.
They do have a MSR (manufacture suggested retail) but it is a high number that nobody has ever sold at; but do use periodically to make their markdowns look extreme.

I dont think this is uncommon
Look at queen/schatt and morgan msrp vs retail
I bought a buck travelmate kit this weekend
msrp in blade was $75, bought new for $25

Re: GEC Pricing
Thanks Lane, felt like a bargain!
Just seems to be the current trend of shopping
almost anywhere. Kohls dept stores here in ga price
tags will say more than clothes really are, you get a
bargain price on anything you buy there .
As far as the buck goes, i would not have paid over $35
for it, regardless of markups or downs. It will serve its
purpose while camping though, and USA made

Re: GEC Pricing
"MSRP" vs price/sale price has always been a sales tactic, regardless of what you are buying.
