Please excuse my ignorance but I was under the impression the Abalone Looking Glass was an acrylic but in your pictures it looks like real abalone. What gives?

And what does the LVS stand for in LVS Abalone?

As I understand it, LVS = laminate veneer sheet. Looking glass in GEC nomenclature means a knife gets a very thin abalone or pearl base and then it's covered with clear acrylic material. Looks like solid abalone or pear until viewed on it's side.

Here's some pics of one of mine done in yellow awabi shell looking glass.

Ahh, thank you. So it's not ground up shells but an actual solid thin sheet of real shell, topped with acrylic. I appreciate the explanation 'cause I didn't have a clue.

I just picked up a Tidioute "Little Indian Girl Canoe" pattern #16 in Yellow Awabi Looking Glass. I found out that Awabi is a Hawaiian word meaning abalone but I was wondering if it was acrylic or genuine shell. The colors are too natural looking but it doesn't feel natural. Thanks to you guys on this forum I now know it's both! ::super_happy::
