NEW GEC SUNFISH
NEW GEC SUNFISH
FELLAS,
GOT TWO NEW TOENAILS. TRACTOR GREEN,CARVED PUMPKIN. NICE KNIVES BUT A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED. THE CARVED PUMPKIN MASTER BLADE WILL NOT SNAP AT ALL. YOU HAVE TO PUSH IT ALL THE WAY TO GET IT TO CLOSE? THE TRACTOR GREEN SNAPS WEAK BUT DOES SNAP. GREAT AESTHETIC BUT DISAPPOINTED IN THE MECHANICAL.
ONE MORE QUESTION? THE MASTER BLADE SEEMS TO BE RESTING AGAINST THE BRASS RAIL. (IS THAT WHAT IT IS CALLED) ITS SCRATCHING UP SIDE OF THE BLADE WHEN YOU SHUT IT?

Re: NEW GEC SUNFISH
I think what your saying is the blade is getting scratched from the brass liner, thats not something to uncommon in the knife world, and I believe if you sent them to GEC they would take care of everything.
They are both beautiful knives.
They are both beautiful knives.

Re: NEW GEC SUNFISH
I believe the snap on the toenail pattern is generally weaker than alot of other patterns,by design.
Chris - I'd give my right arm to be ambidexterous.
Re: NEW GEC SUNFISH
isn't it really about the snap open????

Re: NEW GEC SUNFISH
I think I remember reading somewhere on GEC's website exactly what Classic Case said about the toe's having a weaker snap than other patterns on purpose. I wouldn't think that it was intended to be so weak as to need help to close though. I'd contact GEC about them. I don't think you will have a problem getting satisfaction from GEC.

Sunfish Note
For safety reasons, these GEC Sunfish knives do not have the closing snap of other patterns. They are radius cut and the closing action is very slow. It is not a defect, but something the buyer needs to be informed about
Must have missed this one cause it will take your finger off

JODY, The carved pumpkin toe I have is real hard to open? Almost like it's stuck closed. I'll contact gec and see what they say.

Re: NEW GEC SUNFISH
Jay, you might want to try cleaning out the knife before you
pay to ship it out. Vaarious brands have been mentioned as
having a bit of polishing paste in the knife, causing slow action.
Try blowing it out and then a drop of oil between the spring and
back of the blade to see if that improves it. If not, GEC will take
good care of you. there's a member here, Tbark? that sells a
wonderful oil for knives, maybe under the latama name?
But even the stuff from ace hardware will make a big difference.
good luck and keep us posted

Re: NEW GEC SUNFISH
Hey There Jay,
I have over two dozen E toes from Gec. Most all of them are tight to open and tight at the start of the close. Also as mentioned, the snap upon closing is very slow which is how they were designed. When you mention scratches on the blade, are you speaking of the tang of the knife or the blade itself? Its natural to get some scratching on the tang from the liners, but the blades should not contact the liners above the tang.
