Greetings--new GEC fan

Post by k32 »

Hello,

New here and new to GEC knives. Just bought my first, a "pumpkin bone" sunfish. I am quite impressed and consider it essentially equal in quality to my 1965-69 Case USA vintage sunfish/elephant toe of similar pattern. I don't care much for the blade etchings ("Tidioute" on the front, "1 of 50" on the back), but otherwise a really fine knife. I like the looks of some of the acrylic handles as well, and think it's wise to have used that rather than the pretty but perhaps unstable celluloid that Fight'n Rooster revived.

At any rate, looking forward to my next GEC, maybe that nifty-looking melon-tester/whittler.

Welcome to a GREAT group of fine folks that share an interest in knives......I, like you, am new here AND also new to those GEC KNIVES!
BE CAREFUL! I LOST CONTROL and bought four without a thought!!!! I had been hoarding two dollar bills for years....not old ones...just catching them at the bank as they were available....and I saw their web site....woosh! Gone in a flash! But let me tell ya....I've no regrets! I can touch these and use or just save them...I never admired those two dollar bills. I went to the gun show last Saturday and felt like a KING! I bought TWO Schatt & Morgan knives, two Case knives and a Bear and Sons pearl handled trapper. I have it bad!!!!!!!! Everyone here has warned me....so now I'm slowing down to focus! My problem now is this.....I also hoarded Kennedy half dollar coins! None are silver....I have none in mint...they are next on the GONE list!!!! GEC here I come AGAIN!!!!!!

WELCOME aboard,
Charlie

K32, congrats on getting bit by the GEC bug!
Sounds like you started off with a good one. The etch isn't my favorite, but I use all of mine so in a matter of time it's gone anyhow. The Mellon whittler is a very interesting knife, I don't whittle, but I imagine it's pretty perfect for it.

Bill, welcome to AAPK. Glad to have you aboard the friendliest knife forum on the web.

This #89 in Pumpkin Patch Acrylic was my first Great Eastern. It was the most expensive knife I had ever bought by a factor of several but that was then and this is now and I have several these days, with two more scheduled to be delivered today.

Welcome Bill,
I just caught the GEC bug as well. I had a 66 for a few years and then bought 3 knives in the past month. A 23, 77(which I think is the best) and a 25(which is also the best).
I carry them and use them everyday.
Good luck on many more!
