After reading about the running change on the Main blade of the new Melon Tester I was interested enough to call in and get some actual Totals of the M.T. with the Spear blade - for those that might be interested;

HANDLE - # Serialized - # No Serial
2nd Cut Stag - 50 - 34
Smooth Goldenrod - 50 - 37
Jigged Goldenrod - 50 - 69
Pumpkin Patch - 32 - 3

From what I understand the new version will be produced with a Wharncliff Main blade.

So if you are lucky enough to have one of the above please show it off.

Thanks for tracking down that information on production numbers. I find it interesting that the blade on the 'Pumpkin Patch' version says 1 of 50 but there were actually only 35 made and only 32 are serialized.

Although the Wharncliff is one of my favorite blade patterns, I don't understand why it was chosen to take the place of the Spear blade. Am I wrong on this or don't Melon Testers traditionally have a Spear blade?

Freshly acquired Pumpkin Patch Melon Whittler. I like it, it's one slick little knife ...

[quote="jerryd6818"]Thanks for tracking down that information on production numbers. I find it interesting that the blade on the 'Pumpkin Patch' version says 1 of 50 but there were actually only 35 made and only 32 are serialized.

Now I like my factory defect even more! I wonder if is one of the 3 extras. Or maybe it was one of 15 that didn't make the cut for the 1 or 50. ::shrug::

Mine is unserialized and does have the three P's.

Also curious are all 4 of these Handles, the stag, Pumpkin, and two Goldenrod marked as the Premire production pattern?

If it does not have a serial number, nor a small "S" on the tang then it is one of the three. I suspect by reading the other thread that you got a "store" model, which do not show up in the production counts.

Thank's Mike. There is no S anywhere. But one unussual thing is that there is a small squiggly circle with a line through it that is below the 892 on one of the small blades. Not sure if it was intentional or an accident.

By the way you just sent me a Bulldog - GEC easyopener & a Cripple Creek - Queen Barlow.

Thank you

I think that is a script "S", but it may not be etched perfectly.

Thank again Mike - I thought the same thing - it was obviously hand etched.
