PS: I just regained control of my 1942 1911a1 .45 US Army Colt (as marked) One of these days I will shoot some nice photo's and post them in the off topic area. Should anyone be in the market for one I just ran across a 1943 a1 officers model. The shop only wants $2450.00 which isn't actually to bad considering how good it's condition is,

Back when I was a novice collector I was at an estate auction and one of these knives was there for the highest bidder. It was in unused condition with the blade etch and the sheath as fresh as the day it left the factory.

I looked it over, back then I was not very interested in military knives, and thought it was a reproduction It looked too good to be true

Well all these years later I can tell you it was the real deal, it sold for $40.00 , what a steal!

Well It was a good Sat. morning at the G&K show...picked up a couple of Imperial's, the MK3 is guard marked and in
decent shape with a nice scabbard. The other knife I thought was a MK1 may not be...allthough Cole's book list's it
as a MK1, in an article by Frank Trzaska he call's it a early pilot survival knife made 1953 to 1957. It's very well built
with the same handle and guard as the MK3. just a shorter and wider blade. It didn't have a sheath and I'm wondering
what type came with it...a leather or hard shell...sure would appericate any info or picture's of one so I know what
to look for.

It is really hard to tell without holding and examining but yours appears to be the peened tang model, If it is, the false edge should be sharp, If it is it would be a six stitch per inch with six rivets total. If it is not sharp, it would be a five rivet sheath, a nice find in anybodies estimation. If you ever want to rid yourself of it I have a nice sheath I would park it in. It is prior to Marbles making JPK's. Although they did receive a spec sheet for building them, they waited for the six inch version a bit later. The bent tang is correct as there was three models the bent tang both bright and dark and the straight tang that I am pretty sure was dark. The leather was a natural cowhide.

Is this military? Only thing wrong with this knife is the spring is so strong the blade snaps back when you release it. It is for sale but ebay won't let me sell it.

Post WWII stamp. It is a Paratrooper switchblade knife. It has a bail, the ones that do not are not considered military issue.

a notch or bevel on one side to accommodate the bent guard...that will help in spotting one.

I believe you are right if I remember correctly about the sheath notch...I think they might have had 5 rivets, also. I won't fit the hard Mk1 scabbard due to the bent guard...and it's not an Mk1, anyway.

It looks like a model 1904 Hospital Corps Knife.

It also looks like one half of the guard is cut off

I don't know much about that knife. He said there was a sheath with it at one time and he carried it over his shoulder.

Just so happens that an old Navy buddy of mine just a few days ago sent me a 6 inch Camillus Pilots or aircrew survival knife with a well used sheath which I will use to have a replacement made to its exact specs. The knife still has in excess 85% of parkerizing with what appears to be a small amount of sharpening. Some how the tip has lost a fraction. Bob, somewhere I think I have one of those bolo's with the sheath. I will try to find it.
