Keen Kutter Hoof Knife

Post by 1967redrider »

Recently picked up this hoof knife at a Keen Kutter auction. It appears to be bone handled and is stamped with the traditional Keen Kutter & logo on the blade and SIMMONS HDWARE USA on the ricasso(?). Not sure if you'd call it a "ricasso" on a hoof knife? ::shrug:: I can see how this tool, sharpened on one edge, could easily be hammered into a hoof for trimming and shaping. Then the hooked end would be great for cleaning the bottom of the hoof. I've seen picks and chisels before but this combo looks like the hot ticket.

There were a couple more hoof knives at the same auction but they weren't in as good of condition. One is a Keen Kutter, the other was stamped Norvell Shapleigh.
