Tiny cast iron hatchet head?

Post by almyjmoore »

Any ideas on what this hatchet head was for? Toy? Cigar box opener? Paper weight? Novelty? The blade is not sharp. Any ideas on how old it is. Thanks, Al

I've never opened a cigar box with a hatchet , so I would expect it is a souvenier or paper weight.

I found a couple of advertising cigar box openers that I had packed away. One is a hatchet the other is a hammer. They were both made to cut the box seal, pull the lid nail out and tap the nail back in when the box was closed. I thought the cast iron hatchet head might also have been a cigar box opener but that's probably not too likely. Thanks' Al

Linnea just found one of those in a box of knives her mother has (handle has been replaced).

Jerry D, that hatchet head is an exact match. Mine didn't have a handle either. I would really like to know what it was used for. Thanks, Al

Yeah, me too. Souvenir or child's toy maybe? ::shrug:: It's sure a cute little devil.

Part of a Handy Andy Tool Set from 50's and 60's.
I had a set when I was a kid so not to mess with good old Dads tools.
These tools were almost like the real thing.
Now a days toys like this are made of plastic.

A picture I found on the internet showing the little hatchet.
