KA BAR chef knives

I have two KA BAR chef knives. I have an 8" and a 10" knife. I have had the 8" for a several months now and when I got it I couldn't help but notice the crudely applied handles. Recently I got the 10" knife and the handles on that knife are even worse. It looks like some 8th grade shop project. The stamp on the knives is fairly early, I think. I wonder if KA BAR did all there knives like this during a certain period. The two stamps are different as you can see, but I think they are in about the same time frame.
The handles don't bother me. That's the way they showed up so I'm going with it. I like these knives alot.
Has anyone experienced this with KA BAR knives?
