I found an odd knife the other day at the flea market. It is marked: Harrington Cutlery Co. Dexter Southbridge MASS.

Black wooded handle and very flexable blade, I call it a bread knife but could also be used to spread iceing on a cake?

Try to post pictures of the knife you've found so that we can give comments or suggestions on your post. Well anyway, just to give some overview on the manufacturer of the knife itself, the Harrington Cutlery Co was owned by Henry Harrington and was established in 1818 and it was the first manufacturing of its kind in the US. So, as for the conclusion the knife is quite old already. With your description it really tell how old the knife is.

Hello trapper,

A bread knife should typically have a serrated edge while an icing knife ..... unless for a specific design will have a flat edge.

Hope this helps ... a start at least.
