A recent purchase of a knife with damascus steel has a mark that I can find nothing on. I call it a trident but it not the classic trident seen on Wusthof knives. I am attaching some photos of this unique knife and the mark was so small and dark I had to overexpose the photo in order to get it to show.
As always, any help appreciated,
Ray

Ray is there any chance your knife might have been made by someone of the Hindu faith, or come from Nepal or northern India? Although I cannot see the mark very well it reminds me of the notches cut into the base of every Kukri blade. Though no one is quite sure, a common explanation of that device is that it stands for the goddess Shiva.

I would guess a harp or a lyre if not the letter 'W'
I reviewed my Irish and German maker's marks referneces but came up with zip... so much for my guess

I probably had that on my mind when I wrote that post, Scott. It is, after all, the elixir of life!TripleF wrote:Shucks Ray, I thought you were talking about the bourbon ...Maker's Mark
I sure appreciate the responses on this. I am still hoping someone will come along who recognizes the logo.

I checked out Shiva and she (or he) does have an instrument I'd call a trident in her hand.
I checked out 'lute' and 'lyre', also 'harp'. Not even close on the examples I saw.
I'm still hoping one of the members will check in with some info.
