I found this at the local antique shop. It looks like M.O.P. and says Wards made in u.s.a. on the tang. Other side says 184. my questions are, could this be very old? who is the knife made by.
thanks, Mike.

Re: help, what is it?
It is definitely mother of pearl and from the looks of it probably made by Schrade or Camillus. I favor the former. Nice knife.

Looks pretty old to me, nice find! Pearl pen knives are under rated, they are great.

I think Winchester also made knives for Wards.

It reminds me of an 079 Case.

Wards was a trademark name of Montgomery Wards. They were not a manufacturer.KnifeSlinger#81 wrote:Did wards ever make their own knives or were the kind of like maher & grosh, shapleigh, keen kutter etc?

Re: help, what is it?
Pen knives were quite popular from late 1800's up to about WW II, after which people seemed to much prefer Jack knives. Hence fewer Pen knives were made from about the 1950's. Most likely your knife is from before WW II but i doubt there is any way to know for sure as this particular pattern was sold for many years.

Re: help, what is it?
Montgomery Ward had various companies make knives for them over the years (search for my past post on this).
The posted knife looks like a Winchester based on the tooling - the shape of the handle. So most likely from the 1930's.

Most of the Wards marked knives I've seen were made by Utica or Winchester, this particular knife is etched "Master Quality", I think that that usually means Winchester.
