Remington Whale-Tail Sowbelly $3450

Post by Dragunski »

How does this one look?

Yeah, it's pretty steep. The seller says the scales may have been replaced, since the bone doesn't look quite right. May have a chip or two as well, which he doesn't mention, but it could just be the lighting. This is one of the holy grails of knife collecting, extremely rare, but I imagine he'll take a bit less. Out of my league right now, though. I need a new truck more than this.

But I'm still tempted to offer him $2,000. I doubt he'll take it.

This is probably one I'd have to see in my hand before I could make an offer. It's not a fake, I'm pretty sure. But condition is everything. He says it's $7,000 mint, but I doubt it. Not these days.

Thought you might have left off a zero.

Because even with replaced handles, it's worth at least $700. Unless it's fake, of course.

Ill'e agree with Junebug on this one, just look at some of the pics, looks like the knife may have been taken apart and a half-ass attempt at refinishing the blades. Also look at the area around some of the pins and at one area of scales where epoxy was used to fill in holes.

If you go looking for antique 5 blade sowbellies,my experience is that I find more Remingtons than any other brand. While I don`t own one,I`ve seen 5 or 6,to any 1 of other brands for sale. Bill

If I were a died in the wool Remington collector I might be interested but I just don't see it here. Once the scales came off and replaced it ended it for me ::shrug:: I wouldn't give someone a hard time if they wanted it though. I've over spent on a knife or three that I thought I couldn't live without. Just ask my wife ::facepalm::
