I thought Forest Master was a shield used by Colonial.

Can anybody fill me in?

The "Forest-Master" logo belonged to Colonial.
That's definitely one of the Colonials with a different stamp.
You can find the Forest-Master's with 2 different jig patterns.
That's one I would run past Robert Paolantonio, Scott. He said that they did a LOT of
different "branding" for there customers.

I got an Anvil stockman with a "SHARP USA" stamp on it. He said it IS one of Colonials
"secondary" stamps.

I know the FOREST MASTER shield was part of the Colonial line up.

Scott, I'm operating strictly from memory here ( and that's dangerous at best) but I seem to recall a line of camping products that bore the "Palco" brand. I'm thinking of such items as cooking kits, canteens, eating utinsils and such. If I'm not totally out in left field (my second home) it would make sense that Palco would also market a scout knife and quite likely would have contracted it from a knife making company like Colonial.

Well, I win! I stumped the panel. I contacted both Paolantonio's I know (both grandkids of the founding fathers and still involved in the knife world) and neither could tell me anything about the stamping!

No, I just found this thread

Palco Worc. U.S.A. is a trademark used by the Worcester Pressed Aluminum Co. in Worcester Mass. They are known for making mess kits, canteens, outdoor equipment, etc. These items are still found today and fairly common, their items were made out of Aluminum.I am sure they had these knives made on contract for them as they sold items to companies that handled outdoor equipment, as well as producing official B&G scout items.

I don`t know if they are still in business or not ::shrug::

Now, what do I win Scott? ::hmm:: ::suspense::

Wow!! I'm afraid to jump into this snake pit right here! ::uc:: ::undecided::

I am convinced that Colonial made these knives with private labeling many years ago! They were also made before I came active in the assemble room in the early 70's. That makes perfect sence since these knive's we are talking about have to be dated mid to late 60's...the handles, assembly rivets and a barrel finish on the blades also say Colonial...
In my forty + years in the factory of Colonial, I NEVER saw a Palco tang stamp on anything!!......Doesn't mean they didn't exist!! All the parts from these knives are definately Colonial parts....

This just came up over on the Colonial thread.

I got a new hobo. The reason I posted these two too gather is they both have a PALCO,USA stamp. I have been told that Colonial never made this stamp but I'm inclined to believe they did. I have two of the Forest Master and one has PALCO,USA and one with COLONIAL,USA both with the Forest Master shield. I also have 3 of the Colonial hobos and 2 with the PALCO,USA stamp and all these knives are made identical and the tools on the Hobos are stamped, identical on both the Palco and Colonial.
Just thought it was neat bit of Colonial history.

Palco, I found, is a Camping equipment seller. They sold things like canteens and knives.

I am reviving this long dormant thread to show off this 3 and 5/8" Palco camper type knife I picked up over the weekend at a gunshow for a few bucks. Palco was the Pressed Aluminum Company from Worcester, Mass that made aluminum camping utensils and cook ware. The tang stamp is Palco Worc., USA. It has some scratches on the handle, but does not look like it has been sharpened or used.

That's the same emblem as on Colonial sak copies before they were forced to change it.
It was definitely made by Colonial. Exact same awl, cap lifter and can opener.

After I read your post, I looked and found my Colonial marked version of this knife. It is not identical, but definitely shows that Colonial made the Palco knives. The Colonial awl is a different shape and the kick on the master blade is somewhat different.
Colonial above the Palco.

Colonial used two different awls.
One like on your Colonial, and one like on your Palco.
I have Colonials with both types.

Here is a Colonial Forest Master.
To my surprise the awl has a very nicely ground point on it that would actually lend itself to piercing something.
